Random bits of a tired mind

~I've been looking at lots of photos on different 365 blogs. It's very inspiring, and shows me just how far I have to go.

~So my next purchases (at some point in the future) are going to be a 50mm lens and a tripod and a lens hood. Maybe if I get that money GWB wants to give everyone. Gah. Feels like blood money somehow. Anyway...

~One thing I do at work that totally was not part of my job description and is real time suck, but I kind of enjoy it anyway is produce the news letter and other publications (seasonal booklets about what we're doing, materials for newcomers, etc.). I would love to be able to do some of that work at home, but I use Publisher at work and you can't (as far as I can tell) get it for a Mac. So I proposed today that we should get an office laptop so I could work on stuff at home with it (mind, I've proposed an office laptop before for other reasons to no avail) and my boss is actually considering it. Interesting that me working on it at home is the arugment that might prevail.

~I maintain the church website, too. Something else I could do from home, because I can connect to the network remotely.

~I've sworn off complaining about work, so this is an observation, not a complaint. The week before and the week after I take time off are very hectic--there is just no way not be behind on things.

~I had a piece published under my real name elsewhere in teh internet this week. I would link to it, but that would blow my pseudonymity. This being pseudonymous has it pluses and minuses. Right now I'm sticking with it, but I've been thinking about it a bit.

My tripod is my friend. I, too, want a 50 mm. lens. and an 80-300.
I probably won't get either right away.

Congratulations on the published piece, despite the anonymity!

Another congrats on your published piece. It's good and thoughtful.

This week I started a daily column/blog for a women's site using my actual name. It's exciting and a little scary all at once.

I like pseudonymity of my regular blog. I figure it will still be a place to get out stuff I can't get out elsewhere.

Congrats again, and good luck on the office laptop efforts.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a publishing software that would work on both a Mac and a PC? This assumes, of course, that you don't already have a laptop and that you don't need one for other reasons. But, if you are only needing it to use Publisher, there are lots of publishing programs, like PageMaker from Adobe or one of their other publishing products, that would give you the ability to work in both places.

Julie, I don't think they make PageMaker anymore. We have a really OLD version here and we wanted to update it before we started using Publisher. And the other Adobe stuff is prohibitively expensive. I wish it weren't so, b/c I'd rather use my Mac.

There are other reasons why we need an office laptop though. I really don't think it would be justifiable otherwise.

If your bid for a laptop fails, you might try gotomypc.com. We use it in our parish and I can log onto my office computer and use it as though I was sitting at my desk. I wonder, since you can log onto your network, if you can't get to your office machine without having to use an outside company such as the one I mentioned earlier.
