A lesson in logic

Logic:
~Waterboarding is torture
~Torture is illegal
~Therefore waterboarding is illegal

Illogic:
~I would think it was torture if I was waterboarded*
~Torture is illegal
~But I refuse to consider whether waterboarding is illegal.

Frightening.

*Mukasey's answer to Sen. Kennedy when asked what he'd think if he was waterboarded.

i hear you. the way the illogical logic works is, there is an extra [unstated] calculation: those people aren't quite human, so it doesn't really matter.

the erosion of civil liberties [for citizens] and human rights, not to mention our country's international standing and adherence to international law, have been very frightening to me.
