And you just never know how things are going to turn out

Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an everflowing stream Amos 5:24

~I love that passage, and it really spoke to me this week, but as I noted in my last post, whether from tiredness or distractedness or writer's block (or some combination thereof) I just couldn't get the sermon going. It was okay, but it didn't really capture what I was feeling. I really, really wanted to rewrite it last night, but the energy just wasn't there. This morning as I was getting ready for the 8:00 service, it just came to me what I needed to do. I didn't have time to work on it before that service so I preached it as it was, and it was okay, but as soon as the service was over I ran to my office and rewrote the last part and everything clicked--although I wasn't completely sure of that until I actually preached it.

~The irony for me of writing being so hard for me this week is that I gave not one but three extemporaneous 5 minute homilies on the texts during the week. Despite that I don't think I've ever wrestled so hard with a sermon. It was a happy surprise for me for it to all come together in the end.

Goodness, what a writing experience! Nice to have a really good text at the end of all of that struggle.

I was a lector today and had that reading... I agree... that line really spoke to my heart. It is such a beautiful image!

Glad you got the sermon done and that it went well.
