~Last spring when iPhones came out I thought they were cool, but I wasn't really interested in having one. Too expensive, and probably overrated is what I thought--meh.
~For his birthday the Kid got an iPod Touch--which is basically an iPhone minus the phone. He hardly lets me touch it, but my little exposure has shown me that it is tres cool.
~When we went to the Apple store last week I got to play with a real iPhone. Wow. Fun. So cool.
~My pda died a while back and I've been wondering what to replace it with. An iPhone would certainly do it.
~The drawback? ATT*T. The reception here is lousy and worse in other parts of New England where I sometimes travel. Just can't deal with that. I really think Apple made a strategic mistake in giving an exclusive deal to them. And iirc, it's for five years. That's a long time.
~Of course, the Kid thinks I should buy one anyway and "unlock" it to use it with my carrier. But I don't want to do that for a variety of reasons, not the least of which that it would void the warranty.
~So I'm considering other options. Blackb*rry? Tre*? I like the Blackb*rry P*arl the best from what I've seen so far. Any suggestions, bloggy friends?

You're taunting me, aren't you?
Songbird, did you get it?
Actually you're post the other day made me feel less guilty for wanting the iphone so much...
The B-berry Curve 8320 is WiFi enabled and it is sweet! I have a Tre* and I love it, but the WiFi on my partner's B-berry kicks in wherever there's no cell coverage -- like inside my stone house. And it's fast, fast, fast.
dude- you're a gadget addict. break the addiction. just say no.
I love my iPhone, but it's no good to you if you don't have service. The thing is, if you buy another device now, it will be trashed by the time the exclusive deal with AT&T runs out and you'll be ready to buy an iPhone again then. =)
My husband buys and sells phones on eBay all the time. We've had blackberrys and treos in our house. The Blackberrys seem a little bit better and easier to use.
Good luck! (Notice how I'm totally all for feeding that addiction!)
I love my iPhone as well, but without service it is useless, I agree. And you don't want to void the warranty. As we all know Apples can be a bit, flaky. M loves his Treo, and the few people I know with crackberries love them too...
You should ask Mr. LS. He's had a number of different pda phones. Also, I hear at&t is taking over unicel...so I think that means you'd get better reception. Mr. LS has unicel...
I have a Pal* Tre* 650 that I have really enjoyed. The best feature, however, is that since it is so expensive compared to a paper calendar, I haven't lost it. I went through like five of those clergy desk calendars my first year or so. They were just so cheap that i would lose them. The phone on the other hand is strapped to my side. I know this is lame, but God accepts me as I am; so, I guess I have to as well.
omg jason, I am laughing so hard. I HATE paper calendars, and just refuse to carry one--and I would lose it, too!
The thing I haven't liked about tre0s is their size. Women's pockets tend to be small, and I don't carry a purse if I can help it and I refuse to use one of those belt clip things, so my phone has to fit in my pocket. I will check on out again though.
Yeah, I'm being picky....
Love my treo. And they have gotten a lot smaller recently. One pair of jeans it fits in my pocket, but my more hipster jean pockets are too small. So there ya go...
